The Office for the Students in the Care of D.C. (SCDC) functions based on four core beliefs. We believe in:
Strengthening educational and workforce services and supports.
Every student who comes into contact with the child welfare, juvenile justice or criminal justice systems has a right to high quality educational and workforce development services and supports.
Centering student voice and expertise.
Every student who comes into contact with the child welfare, juvenile justice or criminal justice systems is a powerful voice for positive change and brings expertise and lived experiences that must inform systemic policies and programs.
Providing resources inside and outside of the classroom.
Every student who comes into contact with the child welfare, juvenile justice or criminal justice systems must receive the resources and supports that they need inside and outside of the classroom so that they can learn, gain employment and thrive.
Engaging and supporting parents and families.
Every parent, guardian and care giver of a student under the care of the District of Columbia must be able to easily access educational and workforce development services for the youth in their care.
