Students in the Care

The Office for Students in the Care of D.C. (SCDC) works to create a world where every youth and young adult who comes into contact with the child welfare, juvenile justice and criminal justice system in the District of Columbia, receives high quality educational and workforce development services and supports that addresses their needs, builds on their strengths, and empowers them to succeed.

Engage & Empower

Icon representing Engage and EmpowerYouth and young adults who have come into contact with the child welfare and juvenile or criminal justice system and their families are experts in identifying areas for improvement, setting priorities and developing solutions. Without such expertise, remedies to the challenges facing students in D.C.’s care will not be responsive to students' needs and will not have the sustainable positive impact that we seek. Therefore, students and families must be engaged and empowered to lead with their expertise at every stage of the SCDC’s work.
